IMPT: Class not meeting Thursday, Feb.11

Attention JOUR 271 Section 8 students:

Apologies for the late notice on this, but due to a family emergency, we will NOT be meeting for class today.

Instead, you are expected to post your pitch for Beat Story #2 onto your WordPress blog before the end of classtime today.

You were going to pitch these in-person during class today, but you’ll have to write them out and I’ll have to review them on your blogs instead. I will do my best to give you the “greenlight” on these pitches by tomorrow.

In the meantime, you will still have a What Works assignment due next Tuesday, Feb. 16, and your approved Story #2 will be due on Thursday, Feb. 18.

Before class time on Tuesday, please also read the post about Covering Meetings, and spend some time on the OxfordMS.net site deciding which meeting you plan to cover. We will discuss this in more detail during class next Tuesday.

I will be sending you your graded first Beat Stories by the weekend.

Feel free to email me with questions/concerns/etc.

Again, your assignments are as follows:

DUE TODAY, Feb. 11 at 2:15PM:

  1. Beat story #2 pitch posted to your WordPress blog

DUE TUESDAY, Feb. 16:

  1. What Works assignment posted to your blog.
  2. Read: Covering Meetings post. Also review the previously assigned reading, Carol Rich’s chapter on “Speeches, News Conferences, and Meetings”

DUE THURSDAY, Feb. 18:

  1. Beat story #2: Note that this story has the same requirements as the first one: A MINIMUM of 600-800 words (longer is fine), with a MINIMUM of THREE quoted sources (more is fine).
